Meet our Alumni
FDR Research experience has been enriching for all who had associated. Many of the researchers have assumed high level analyst roles in government, or independent research organizations or have assumed professional positions within the various departments within the organization. In the last 3 years, 2 of the former researchers have made it to the much sought after Civil Service and 2 joined the prestigious Prime Minsiter’s Rural Development Fellowship(PMRDF) program.

“This internship provided me with great work opportunities and a very friendly work environment with able guidance from seniors. The work environment is very motivating. The kind of work is a major attraction of this internship experience. The work keeps you on your toes all the time because of its motivating nature. Not once during my internship I felt bored while doing any assignment. The type of work differs on a daily basis, which keeps the excitement running. The ideological policy of this Organisation stands on very firm democratic grounds and you automatically feel like a part of the team. You feel motivated to work for a change, to contribute and experience. I cannot emphasize more on the congenial work environment that they provide. I didn’t even realize how time flew by. This is the type of internship which makes you look forward to Mondays. This is the type of internship which imparts you a certain skill on a daily basis. I am writing this with a feeling of nostalgia, FDR was a like a family.”

“My internship with FDR was an interesting experience. The work environment was dynamic, friendly and intellectually stimulating. FDR gave me the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities which included research, drafting, preparing reports and other analytical assignments. Visiting the Andhra Pradesh State Police Training Academy for an interaction with senior level police officers and interacting with Dr. Jayprakash Narayan were some of the high points of the internship experience.”

“My internship with FDR was a very nice experience. I gained a lot of knowledge and confidence through this internship. The environment at FDR was very friendly and helpful. The sessions with Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan were especially valuable. I worked on various topics relating to electoral and political reforms, participated in survey on implementation of the legislations enacted , studied various policy issues. I got the opportunity to understand the working of the legislature and judiciary. I finished my internship d came out with such a lively experience that I would cherish my memories at FDR forever! Looking forward to working with FDR again!”

“I first applied for this internship not knowing what to expect. But, the internship at FDR gave me a chance to meet and spend time with so many new and interesting people from different cultural backgrounds and fields of expertise. Here, I learnt the real meaning of the melting pot that everyone talks about. I had an opportunity of being involved in projects, which were both fun and enlightening. My internship at FDR helped me understand how Indian politics works and which stakeholders are actually involved in the decision making process. I would like to thank the FDR team for giving me the opportunity to meet such a diverse group of young managers and interns that made my stay better than I could ever imagine.”

Working as an intern at FDR has been a unique experience. Within a one-month period, I worked on assignments covering the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, Judicial Appointment Commission Bill, Prevention of Corruption Act, Allotment of Election Symbols and other current issues. Even though there were >15 other interns from various backgrounds, there was no dearth of work. Moreover, the democratic atmosphere fostered by the FDR Team ensured that my views and contributions were never marginalised. The quality of policy-based research at FDR and its actual involvement in realization of reforms are laudable. I’m glad to have been a part of the team.
[/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_testimonial admin_label=”Partha Sarathi Pati” author=”Partha Sarathi Pati” company_name=”IIT Madras” url_new_window=”off” quote_icon=”on” use_background_color=”on” background_color=”#f5f5f5″ background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]
Hailing from an entirely different background, I wondered whether I would feel like a fish out of water in an organization that researches on governance and policy reforms. As I write this I feel nostalgic about the life and times at that wonderful organization. I chose to do this internship not out of patriotic zeal but to gain an understanding of the ground realities of our system and that is exactly what I got. I take back a lot of understanding on the wants of an ever-changing democratic arrangement. I was able to appreciate the intricate and necessary web of processes that lead to policies. The thing that I loved about FDR was that there were no barriers between interns and the full time researchers. We were allowed to deal with high profile cases just as we were allowed to research on significant reforms. The variety of work we may be getting to do is also worth commenting upon – from filing PILs to organizing campaigns, the job demanded exceptional managerial, communication and analytical skills. The internship developed my temperament as I learnt to work with diverse teams and execute projects in time.

What I would remember the most from my experience at FDR is that I was not just given tasks to complete but was also informed about the end-results. That acted as a recognition of my efforts and an incentive for me to work harder and learn more. The staff at FDR could not have been more helpful and supportive to me. My co-interns were an energetic bunch who made it a wonderful month for me at the office. Having worked on a myriad of issues and discussed outcomes and possibilities with enthusiastic people over a month, I can say that it was a great experience in policy making.
